A Legacy of Leadership
Matt Anderson’s journey to Rube’s began with a degree in Communication Studies from The University of Iowa, followed by early career experience in sales. In 1993, his father called with a" life-changing opportunity" — he and a few partners had purchased Rube’s Supper Club, and wanted him to lead the day-to-day operations of the business. Growing up in nearby Tama-Toledo, Matt had long been familiar with Rube’s founder, Glen Rubenbauer, and his "best l'il steakhouse in Montour." With an entrepreneurial mindset and a drive to build on Rube’s reputation, he moved to Montour and took on the challenge. Learning the business from the ground up, he embraced the opportunity to learn, lead, and grow what had already become a beloved destination for steak lovers. Decades later, he continues to lead with a passion for quality, tradition, and innovation.

Investing in people
One of the most rewarding parts of Matt’s journey at Rube’s has been watching the growth and success of the people who have worked here. He takes great pride in seeing team members start as young employees and develop into leaders within the company—or take the skills they’ve learned at Rube’s and thrive in other careers. Watching their journeys unfold, both inside and outside the restaurant, is a testament to the strong work ethic, camaraderie, and life lessons that make Rube’s more than just a place to work.

The Perfect Meal
For Matt, a great night at Rube’s starts with a Smoked Old Fashioned, followed by a perfectly grilled bone-in ribeye, a crisp wedge salad, and a baked potato with butter and sour cream—all best enjoyed with family and friends.

Beyond the Business
Matt has loved the outdoors and visiting new places and experiences for as long as he can remember. It was a big deal to Matt to visit all fifty US States by age fifty! He is passionate about the land and freedom others have sacrificed for us in America. His greatest joy, however, is spending time with his family—especially his children and new grandson.

A Fun Twist of Fate
"I met my wife, Michele, while trying out for the cheer squad at the University of Iowa. Our friendship grew into an incredible partnership in life, business, and family—none of this would have been possible without her."
